The mantle (the green clothing) is loose and opened up there's also a thick belt across the chest underneath. They are just multiple overlapping layers. Sure, the final result is that your character looks bulkier when looked sideways, but it's rather fine to me: you're wearing a hooded cape over these clothes after all...

I wonder if it would be possible for Regina to tell us how many costumes they've sold. I'm mighty curious to see the number since I see so very few of them running around in-game.
Anyway, my first post about the costumes was bitchy. I've come to love them despite their flaws. 10x than the Wintersday garbage outfits. <3

It's a William Shattner Costume.

We can't discuss sales numbers, but we're happy with how they've done. We're super glad with the way players have gotten involved in the War in Kryta event, and that extends to the costumes.

Does this mean we get to see a mini expansion in the not so far future or they didn't do that well?

Which you entirely can blame the community for. People started saying they bought costumes to support (the development) of GW1/2. Anet had nothing to do with it.

Well, let's be fair... Anet are most likely earning a lot less money on us than they would with an MMO with a monthly subscription fee. Despite this, they still have a team of people supporting GW1 and creating the occasional update. Remember that the whole War in Kryta event did/does involve a group of people working on it, and they don't work for free!
But instead of saying: "okay, everyone who wants to participate in the War in Kryta event and quests and the 5th anniversary celebration, can download the Anniversary Pack from our store", they're saying: "everyone gets the War in Kryta completely for free, but if you want, you can support us by buying these costumes".
Personally, I am very happy that they're handling it this way, as the choice is entirely yours, and even if you decide not to buy, it does not give those who did buy them an advantage in-game, nor does it make any of the new content inaccessible to you.
So thanks a lot for handling it this way, Anet... you have my support!

Well, if there has been any mention of War in Kryta related updates for GW1 that require payment, then I must have missed that. So far, all the (automatic) updates were given to everyone for free, and I have not read anything to suggest that this will change...

Dude, get over yourself already.
A company offered a product for a price. Some customers thought the product had value to them at that price, and some didn't. This is just like every other non-essential purchase decision that we come across in our lives.
I bought the Kryta costume pack for $9.99, because I determined it was worth that to me. In NYC, that $9.99 would have bought me a Scotch at my local bar. So I'll skip that Scotch and watch my characters run around in funny new clothes. No big deal.
I also determined that the Wintersday costumes did not have that value to me, so I didn't buy them. Nor I did I buy the extra storage panels. That I did not buy them does not mean I somehow outsmarted the diabolical tricksters at Anet; it simply means I determined the price of those items to exceed their value to me.
Video game publishers get held to some pretty weird standards when it comes to trying to sell products.

Okay, that's just silly, where can I find Anet saying we can support them by giving money?
I bought the costumes because I like them. But supporting a company by giving them money? Laughing Out Loud.

You may think it's silly, and Anet will probably never state out loud that you can support them by giving them money, as few people would do it if there's nothing in it for them as well (that obviously includes you). So yes, they give you a set of costumes in return. But let's face it... more than likely designing these 2 costumes cost them significantly less than what it brings in, so from a business point of view, these customes are in fact paying (at least part of) the wages of the people on the GW1 team, who are otherwise not generating any income. So by buying the costumes, you allow the GW1 team to exist a little longer.
So if the costumes sell well enough, it will be Anet who's Laughing Out Loud

It was rather more than "a few hours". It actually took several artists, including a concept artist, a few months--splitting their time between their Guild Wars 2 work and Guild Wars work (remember, Live Team does not have dedicated artists)--to complete the costumes. This is start to finish: from concept, to making meshes, modeling, texturing, making it dye-able, working on the rigs, fixing bugs, shadow masks, bug fixes on animations, and more bug fixes after QA passes, etc. --all the way to their appearance on the live servers.
BTW, our designers weren't working on the costumes. I think it would be interesting if designers rather than artists worked on costumes, but probably not something we could release to the public.

What would be MORE interesting is if we got programmers to work on the costumes. "Programmer art", as it's lovingly referred to, is amazing to behold
